NFDI4DS has multiple efforts to engage with the community. We are currently focusing on:

Community involvement via Requirements Elicitation - User Interviews, User Surveys and development of Personas.
Community empowerment via Training and Education and Events.
Community engagement via Shared Tasks and Hackathons for enhancing our tools and services.
Partner onboarding via Speed Boat Projects for supplementing our tools and service portfolio.

Success Story

Shared AI tasks attract the AI and Data Science community

Shared AI tasks provide a framework for scientifically exciting and challenging tasks for the NFDI4DS community. A shared task is a friendly competition to solve a research problem in the field of data science and AI hosted as a scientific event.

NFDI4DS is organizing an extensive line-up of shared tasks. Each shared task contains a specific challenge together with a dataset. Our shared tasks are running in the context of workshops at well-known events with published proceedings. Peer-reviewed workshops assure the quality of the selected shared tasks.

One highlight in 2024 was an NFDI4DS-organized workshop on natural scientific language processing (NSLP 2024) co-located with the ESWC conference, which hosted two shared tasks on field of research classification (FoRC) and software mention detection (SOMD). The results were published as a book.
